About “Unbound Wallflowers”:
“Wallflower” is a species of cabbage family planted in Europe with flowers of yellow, orange, red and occasionally with a little brown, blooming in early spring. The name itself derives from eponymous plant’s unusual growth pattern, against a wall as a stake or in cracks and gaps in the stone walls.
That’s also the reason to define people who join parties and gatherings but always avoid the crowd and the limelight as wallflowers. They usually just stand against the wall and watch other people talk and dance rather than mingle. People often identify this word with introverts. And although it is true that introverts love to be wallflowers, so do all of us, when we do not want to or even think about stepping out of the ordinary.
We actually have heard a lot about living to experience, challenge, explore and develop ourselves. But those words flickered through us then disappeared in the midst of everyday’s work, study, households, children, emotions. At some rare time we stop to make a something just enough to recharge energy, that’s all.
So I create a recipe called “100 new little things”. This site is where I share it to you.
We will do something new every week, from fun things like writing, drawing, pottery, to thinking differently, solving problems and dealing with emotions. You will have the opportunity to experience, challenge, explore, change the way you think, turn lively, diverse, thoughtful, or in short to be a better you.
We are wallflowers that unbind.
You are still yourself, and not only that, you are a European flower that will unbind from the wall whenever you want. Or maybe you’re still against the wall, but it’s because you’re comfortable being like that, not because you’re scared of the crowd.
“We often overestimate what we can do in a day, but always underestimate what we can do in a year.” – Unknown.
I am sure that by remembering to do new things constantly, though small, you will see your world changes. Keeping the state of a child, you will love to try new things, feel easy and necessary to enjoy the sweetness of the world. Maybe you will not feel the change in one day, but from a few months to a year, you will see miracles coming like stardust from a wand.
“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
And of course you will have a list of 100 of your own. That list may be different from what I shared, because you may not be a yellow flower, but orange, but red, but occasionally brown. You can refer to my list in the “100 crazy things blog”. Just have fun, baby.
This recipe is for:
- Those want to “get out of the box”, want to be a thinker, want to explore the self, to find freedom and creativity, to enjoy every moment of life in the most delicate and complete way.
- Those are introverted that want to unbound and become better.
- Those are trapped in dull and stagnant everyday life.
- Those want to erase the stress of work, education, family, children.
- Those are happy or at a good state, and have enough energy to do something new and fun and make life even brighter.
Welcome to this small community.
You may ask why? Here are the benefits:
First, I have been trying new things for years. Those are just new small things that I have happened to think of, such as to walk around all the strange roads in the blocks behind my house to see what are there, to sit down and closely watch the dead leaves forming a colourful summer carpet, to read a book in a field that I was not used to, or to gather some close friends at a nice coffee shop talking about any specific knowledge.
And guess what, I found out that these things are little fun thing that brightened up my days. I just discovered something I am good at that I had never thought of before.
Plus, you never know there would be one small thing that could lead to a bigger thing. Such as, after I read a book in philosophy I got so addicted to the field and ended up reading so many related books that deeply changed my thoughts. You too, you may find one of your small things will not just to light a day, but to light your months and years.
Or it is simply just a nice water colour drawing day with a “very-you result” that you will share it over your social media, or privately with your Messengers’ close friends.
Easy or difficult?
The choice is yours.
But since these are “new” things, not to mention its nature is easy or difficult, at the beginning you ought to have some kind of “move your arse” attitude in order to kickstart it. This is where things work: you already have a colony that you call it “yourself”, now just unbind it, get just one step out of the comfort zone, feel it. If it really leads to somewhere then you create a path, if not, do another thing in another direction. All of your tiniest moves count! It is just as good as extending your territory, am I right?
Don’t worry, you have a brick wall behind to back you up!
